March for Women in Vermillion, SD, day after Trump inauguration

The inauguration of Donald Trump on Friday won’t be the only large event in Washington this weekend.

Harris said the march is about channeling the fear and confusion that many people have felt since the election into a movement. Thinking up a sign should be fun, and it’s for an excellent, and super important, cause. Although she emphasised that women’s rights are being threatened, she added that “the march supports not just the rights of women, but recognises that equality must be for everyone”.

Numerous women heading to Lansing Saturday, Samar said, are Blue Water Progressives members.

“We’re going to let them know that even though this is the reality of what’s happening, this is only the beginning, we’re still going to fight for our rights”, she said.

It is estimated there could be more than 1,000 Missourians headed to Washington D.C.to march.

She said she wanted to make the main event a priority, as part of a nationwide response to the election of President Donald Trump and the Republican majority in Congress. She is organizing a free bus ride to the march for transgender, gender non-conforming and homeless protesters from New York City.

March organizers said in a statement posted to their website that participants will unite to end violence and promote rights for women, LGBT people, workers, people of color, people with disabilities and immigrants.

“As an assembled group, we choose to stand by all persons marginalized by the divisive and prejudiced rhetoric now driving the impending Inauguration”, said event organizer Bridget Speer Loring.

“I absolutely want to help women use their voice, find their voice, make a scene”, says Susan. “We can’t continue to be one-dimensional”, she says. “If we had more time I bet we would have 50 buses, but we had to stop it because we’re two days away”. “We want to work towards a city and country that is more inclusive, not less”.
