“I look at Trump as a genuine outsider, as somebody who doesn’t do anything by the book in politics”, he said. “Well the American people understood that’s not what we needed”.

Cruz and Trump are in a political battle for Iowa delegates. John McCain, R-Arizona, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee.

It was a certain break from the typical campaign stop for Ted Cruz.

Asked if he was uncomfortable sharing the spotlight next to Palin during her lengthy endorsement speech in Ames, Iowa on Tuesday, Trump denied that he had been – but admitted that he hadn’t expected Palin’s time on stage to be “quite that long”.

“Donald used to shower love and affection on me, and then conservatives began uniting behind us and our poll numbers surged and his went down and suddenly Donald got very rattled and started launching attack after attack after attack”, Cruz said.

Trump is the guy who wrote in a book that he “always felt that I was in the military” because of his education at a military themed boarding school.

“I like Sarah Palin but I’m not going to blame President Obama for the post-traumatic stress disorder that our soldiers may face”, Sen. “I think he is an awesome marketer”.

He repeated his somewhat dubious assertion that the Washington establishment is “rushing” to get behind Trump – specifically highlighting Trump’s past friendships and political alliances with Democrats.

“Just yesterday, Bob Dole explained why the establishment is supporting Donald Trump”, Cruz added. “Jeb is down the toilet”, he said, “and Ted is starting to go down”.

But don’t miss the forest for the trees here. Republican voters who watched saw Trump as the victor over Cruz, 41% to 24%. “Nobody likes him”, he said.

“God, I have missed you”, Colbert said, calling the former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate the “original [joke] material girl”.

The former vice-presidential candidate continued: “It’s a shame that our military personnel even have to wonder, if they have to question if they’re respected anymore”.

Meanwhile, Cruz said he will still be a big fan of Palin no matter what she plans to do this year.

Appearing on CNN’s “Wolf” on Wednesday with Wolf Blitzer, Paul argued, “I do worry a little more about Donald Trump and the main reason I do is I believe he wants more power to come to him and he’ll take care of us all if we just give him power”.

On the contrary, says Tom Zawistowski of the Portage County Tea Party, it could actually hurt Trump more than help him.
