Marco Rubio Nabs Minnesota

The Vermont senator is well back of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination and needs to do well in caucus states that tend to reward candidates with passionate supporters. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is due to rally in the Minneapolis area on Tuesday. Even if Cruz wins the state, he’s not guaranteed all 155 GOP delegates; the state awards them proportionally.

Dayton tells The Associated Press that he thinks Clinton would win decisively if Tuesday’s presidential preference vote was done as part of a primary. Voters who attend caucuses in the state tend to be more enthusiastic and more progressive than state Democrats overall – two characteristics that have benefited Sanders in previous contests. Before losing the Nevada caucus and the SC primary, he’d picked up endorsements from moviemaker Spike Lee, former NAACP president Ben Jealous, singer and activist Harry Belafonte and Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, who was killed by NY police.

Not all young black voters are on Sanders’ side, said Cathy Cohen, a University of Chicago political scientist who studies black millennial voters. Will Cruz be celebrating increased strength among evangelicals, from whom Trump has been siphoning support?

Wins tomorrow in MA and several other big states could set Clinton on an nearly unstoppable track toward the Democratic nomination and she said she’ll be ready to turn her full attention to whoever the Republicans nominate.

Despite his lack of wins Tuesday night, Rubio maintained that his campaign would have better luck in future states during an interview on CNN Tuesday night.

He said the corporations have too much power and the only way to change “is through political revolution when people come together to demand something that is not really that radical, to have somebody that represents all of us, not just a few wealthy campaign contributors”.

Before the caucuses, Sanders had said a large turnout would favor him because he appeals to more first-time voters.

Recent polls suggest that the Wellesley campus may well be a microcosm of the state, with Clinton and Sanders locked in a close battle in MA. “I think that’s what we need in a president”.

But Trobiani noted Trump’s wide lead in the GOP race. Also seeking votes on her behalf have been state Democrats such as Gov. Mark Dayton, U.S. Sen.

“We at the party could not be more excited”, Martin said about overflow caucuses.

Clinton spoke with voters outside the polling location before heading inside with Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, a Hillary Clinton supporter, and again greeted voters. He held rallies in Hibbing on Friday and Rochester on Saturday and made a final stop in Minneapolis on Monday.

And Minnesota, Colorado and Alaska are caucus states that could experience more hiccups than state-run primary states.
