Marco Rubio: ‘Not running for governor,’ no late file for Senate re-election
The decision to leave the race came as Donald Trump defeated Rubio in a winner-take-all battle for Rubio’s home state of Florida’s 99 Republican delegates.

According to a report by the Twin Cities Press, Rubio lauded his former rival as “the only conservative left in the race” during a conference call with Minnesota supporters on Wednesday.

Rubio’s staff recorded the Republican lawmaker walking into his office at the Russell Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill to applause from employees.
Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters for the first time since he ended his presidential campaign Tuesday night, said he’s not interested in being vice president, isn’t running for governor in 2018 and reiterated that he won’t run for re-election to his Senate seat.
“Winning a general election with a nominee that a significant percentage of the base thinks stole it, even though you did it through the rules of the RNC, would be pretty much fatal for the party”, Rubio said, though he added that many Republicans will not vote for Trump, either. “When the media narrative goes negative on you, and all the news is bad, it kind of knocks us off”.
As for his loss in Florida, Rubio said: “The only thing that happened over the weekend was the constant drip drip drip of “Rubio’s losing” [in the media]”.

However, he continued, “I remain open to public service in the future if the opportunity is right for me”.
