Marco Rubio stands by calling Trump a ‘con artist,’ still supports him
Marco Rubio is standing by his description of Donald Trump as “a con artist”, but he says in a new interview he still plans to support the real estate mogul for president. And he doesn’t take it back.

“I’ve basically gotten into one of the toughest races in the country, on nearly the very last second possible, in an environment where I don’t control what’s happening at the top of the ticket”, Rubio told the Miami Herald editorial board.
While Rubio stands by his endorsement of Trump, he doesn’t want to literally stand by him in his cabinet.
Rubio, who is running for reelection after insisting that he would become a “private citizen” next year, claimed that Trump’s candidacy helped convince him he needed to remain on Capitol Hill. Now we have a binary choice _ not a choice between 15 people or 12 people.
But Trump has plummeted in key battleground state polls since the party convention, causing fear among Republicans that his fall in favor could affect House and Senate races.
Murphy declared a “moral obligation” to restore and preserve Florida’s environment and added, “Unlike Marco Rubio, I’m committing to showing up and fighting every day to protecting our environment in the U.S. Senate”. “Rubio’s corporate polluter agenda could not be more stark”, she said. Asked if he’d accept the position of secretary of state – Clinton’s former job – Rubio said no. “In the Senate, I will work to diversify our energy portfolio by supporting green energy innovation and incentivizing wind and solar and looking at all types of alternative energy”.
Rubio wouldn’t rule out another presidential run of his own, either in 2020 or 2024.
The likely match-up between Murphy and Rubio will be a tough battle for a seat that could be pivotal in determining which party controls the Senate next year. “Is running again in four to eight years”. Marco Rubio’s environmental record on issues ranging from climate change to water quality.

Polls show Rubio comfortably ahead in the Republican Senate primary race later this month, but his advantage against the top Democratic candidate has been significantly narrowing, which some blame on Trump dragging down all Republicans on the ballot. The most recent state voter-roll statistics suggest trouble for Trump, as the number of black and Hispanic voters who typically vote Democratic has increased faster than the number of non-Hispanic white voters.
