There’s plenty of shrieking and hollerin’ from the masked men in brightly colored Fat Tuesday garb as they travel along in their wagon, wreaking havoc on the countryside. “Once you come to Lafayette your realize it’s more fun here”.

Fat Tuesday marks the end of the Mardi Gras season before the beginning of Lent, a period of penance and spiritual renewal.

“During Mardi Gras season we make between 50,000 and 65,000 just during Mardi Gras time so it takes a lot of organization, said owner Sherri Thigpen”.

Shell casings with two calibers indicate the number of guns used Sunday afternoon, said Chief Tim Hendricks of Pass Christian (kris-TYANH), a city of 5,300 about 45 miles east of New Orleans. As part of the festivities, strings of beads are thrown from floats to spectators lining the streets, along with cups and toys.

Louisiana State Police have always helped during Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras is the city’s biggest tourist attraction. The coconuts have been hollowed out and had the outside hair removed before they’re specially decorated with glitter or elaborate designs. Like the Boston Marathon, he said Mardi Gras is a local celebration that also draws visitors from all over. Members wear costumes resembling skeletons with papier-mache masks covering their heads.

And just because these recipes are worthy of Fat Tuesday, doesn’t mean they’re all over-the-top.

Before sunrise Tuesday, about 100 people turned out at the Backstreet Cultural Museum to see the North Side Skull & Bone Gang come out.
