Mariah Carey, Harry Connick Jr. get shows of their own

The singer was joined by producers of the series on Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Los Angeles, teasing the upcoming program in the most Mariah Carey way possible. “By the way, you’ve just driven me to drink”, she said, before picking her glass up to reiterate her point.

Showing up to her panel to promote her upcoming E! reality miniseries, Mariah’s World, with a coterie of shirtless men who assembled their bodies to form a couch for her to recline upon, Carey served the audience chilled Veuve before settling in to field questions like the goddamn lunatic she truly is.

Mariah Carey is giving fans an inside look to her chaotic world as a mother, a fiancée, and a world-famous pop diva.

Pressed about what television she does watch, she first declined to specific, saying, “I don’t want you to judge me on my shows”. “I can be bossy, but I try to be a nice person”. “So I thought, let’s just show the behind the scenes, what it really takes to do a tour… and mainly, watch how the music evolves, watch the process, and watch how the different personalities clash”.

We’ll all be in the orbit of Mariah’s World come December 4. “I did that a lot in the beginning”, she said, “because I was like, ‘Why are they in here?”

“There are things that happen and you just go with it”, she said.

Does she throw shade – slang for trash talking – and if so why?

“I am happy for her and all her new endeavors, both personal ones and professional ones”. The reason we call it a docu-series (instead of a reality series) is because it feels like a documentary. “I don’t throw shade”.

“I don’t consider it reality…”, she noted.

The singer set the bar high with her appearance on MTV’s Cribs a few years ago – in the show she took viewers on a tour of her home, which features a bathroom with a chandelier, and worked out on a stair master in a pair of four inch high heels.

Mariah Carey really hopes this doesn’t all turn into a “big piece of dog s-“. “We’ll see. I think it should be sparring”.
