Marian Gaborik’s goal lifts Kings over Blackhawks, 3-2, in overtime
The Los Angeles Kings erased a 2-0 third period deficit and beat the Chicago Blackhawks by a final score of 3-2 in overtime. With his first-period goal, Kane became the first American-born National Hockey League with a point in 19 consecutive games, eclipsing the mark set by Eddie Olczyk (Toronto Maple Leafs, 1989-90) and Phil Kessel (Boston Bruins, 2008-09).

After Palmieri tied it with 22 seconds remaining in the third period, Moore beat Condon on a breakaway at 2:29 of overtime.
Patrick Kane waited 59 minutes and 33 seconds before sneaking in a secondary assist Friday in Anaheim to keep his point streak alive. It’s their first loss when leading after two periods since the start of last season.
The Blackhawks didn’t end this trip exactly how they wanted.
Playing in his 600th regular-season game, Kane opened the scoring with his 14th goal of the season at 11:10 of the first while Tyler Toffoli was off for holding Artemi Panarin. Final shots on goal in the overtime period, were 5-3 in favor of the Kings. Jeff Carter scored the other marker, the start of three unanswered for Los Angeles. The period did close with a nail-biting moment, however, when Jonathan Toews was able to skate in on Quick in the closing seconds of the period.
The Blackhawks scored two goals with less than two minutes to play in the third period. “It’s exciting. I don’t want to think about it too much, just try and enjoy it”.
RW Marian Hossa ended G John Gibson’s quest for a shutout with 1:41 left in regulation by one-timing a slap shot from the right point on a power play for his fourth goal of the season.
Chicago went up 2-0 when Niklas Hjalmarsson’s slap shot from just in front of the blue line sailed over Kings’ goalie Jonathan Quick’s glove and into the back of the net.
Keeping to the the theme of the game, the equalizing goal still did not cause the Blackhawks to stir, and the Kings owned the rest of the third as well. Keith batted an errant short pass by Kopitar to Kane, who beat Quick cleanly with a snap shot. They also hinted they’ll be formidable foes for any team with hopes of winning the West this season. The Blackhawks concluded their annual “Circus” road trip, necessitated by Ringing Bros., Barnum and Bailey invading the United Center.
The Kings and Blackhawks, who have alternated possession of the Stanley Cup for the past four seasons, put forth an entertaining game Saturday night at Staples Center. On Saturday night the Blackhawks took on the La Kings.
