Marine Corps Warplane Crashes in California, Killing Pilot

A Marine Corps F/A-18C warplane crashed in the California desert and the pilot was killed, the service said Friday.

A pair of F/A-18C “Hornet” jets launch from the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar flight line, February 12, to join a formation of about 190 aircraft to participate in the Centennial of Naval Aviation “Parade of Flight”.

The pilot was from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing out of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The nature of the training mission was not specified.

As per policy, the cause will be investigated by the military.

The identity of the pilot has not been released, pending a 24-hour period following notification of family members.
