Apple’s press conference led off with the long-awaited announcement of a new Mario game for iOS, Super Mario Run. Each level will be timed, and users will need to help Mario reach the flag pole at the end of the stage before running out of time.

The primary control seems to be tapping the screen, which causes Mario to jump. In an interview with IGN, Shigero said that the game will be available to Android users come next year. Miyamoto was on hand to play the game, and you’ve got to impress as many Toad characters as possible.

Move aside, Mitomo: Nintendo announced today that its next iOS app will bring the iconic Super Mario to Apple mobile devices.

Details are thin on the ground but Nintendo said: “We do intend to release the game on Android devices at some point in the future”, according to Kotaku. – In the third mode, you can create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes.

In-app purchases will be present, too, but they won’t be required to enjoy the full game. One great new features that will be available is a new Battle Mode called “Toad Rally”, in which players will able to compete against and best other another player’s high score. There was no definitive release date given either, but Super Mario Run will release sometime in December.
