Mariota’s season over, Titans say QB will not play at Indy
“To win 10 games his first two years says a lot about what he’s able to do and a lot about his coaching”, Mariota said. Titans interim head coach Mike Mularkey says it’s “not worth the risk” of playing the rookie in their season finale Sunday at Indianapolis.

“He does seem a possible fit (in Tennessee) with Marcus Mariota being the quarterback, and with Johnny Manziel, maybe Cleveland’s another possibility that nobody’s really talked about”, ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder said Wednesday on ESPN News. He joins Peyton Manning as the only rookie quarterbacks in the National Football League to throw for 3 or more touchdowns in four different games as a rookie.
The Titans are expected to move on from interim coach Mike Mularkey on Monday and begin a search for a new coach.
“I think he’s proven [he can be a winner] the first two years”.
The biggest reason why the Titans are seen as a potential suitor for Kelly is the presence of quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was recruited to OR by Kelly before he left for the Eagles and was reportedly coveted by Kelly for the Eagles before this year’s draft.
With Mariota out, the Titans will get the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2016 if they finish the season with their fourth straight loss.
Mariota said he has not spoken to Kelly, who led the Eagles to a 26-21 record over three seasons and a 6-9 mark this year.
Mariota finished his rookie season completing 62 percent of his passes for 2,818 yards and 19 touchdowns, both of which were Titans rookie records. “But all in all, I wanted to come in and try to make an impact, and I thought I’ve done that to an extent”.
“But it’s part of the business and you’ve got to do your best to handle it”, he said.
He said the coach deserved “a lot” of credit for his development.

“They’re looking for somebody that Marcus Mariota can jell with, Chip Kelly obviously is potentially their guy and it doesn’t appear as if the Tennessee Titans would have problems giving him full control”, Smith said.
