Mark Hughes leads the Premier League Sack Race

Stoke were able to collect a consolation goal in stoppage time via a brilliant strike from Marko Arnautovic.

“It is nearly like you can not come out of that box, which seems a bit ridiculous to me”.

Stoke settled but never really threatened in attack, and two more quick-fire goals in the second half secured Palace a second win of the campaign. “It’s hard to change a team and change the style a bit”.

“We need to address that very, very quickly”.

Stoke lost 4-1 against Crystal Palace, the third time in four league games that they have been breached four times, and continue to prop up the division with one point from five winless fixtures.

“We’re giving ourselves too much to do”.

“We looked solid, we are a powerful team and we looked like that today, and it was that power that won us the game”. It’s very hard – it affects your life at home. We have got to stick together and, hopefully, come through it.

The 25-year-old was one of two players released from the England squad shortly before Euro 2016 but Pardew hinted that, in current form, Townsend could add to his 11 caps for the national team.

‘Pape is going to be out for a few months but everyone is just thankful he is still with us.

“They know what we can do and what we’re good at”.

The win was sealed with 15 minutes to go, as the excellent Townsend cut in on his right foot and curled home from just outside the box to make it four nil.

Stoke also suffered a slow start last season but recovered to finish in the top half of the table.

Hughes’ troops face Hull at home in the League Cup on Wednesday, which is followed by a crunch clash against West Brom at the weekend. Obviously it’s true that bad results can not go on forever, but we’re only five games into the season.

However Coates is well aware that Stoke have only played five Premier League games, and is willing to give Hughes and his staff time to turn things around.
