Mark Hunt ends losing streak with first round knockout of Antonio Silva

>Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva had an epic 25 minute battle less than two years ago in Australia, but the rematch ended in less than four minutes at UFC 193 on Saturday night. The headlining bout featured the shocking knockout victory for Holly Holm over the formerly dominant queen of the division Ronda Rousey. Since nobody won and nobody lost, it seemed fitting for them to fight again.

Mark Hunt’s game plan is to “knock the bloke out”, in most of his fights. Even after that setback, he stayed in the mix and ultimately fought Fabricio Werdum for the interim title, but he got worked last time out and Saturday felt like it could have been his swan song.

The Aussie followed it up with a series of elbows and fists, causing the referee to stop the fight and award it to Noke via TKO after two minutes.

Earlier, there were a few more big Aussie wins. Silva, clearly not anywhere near the same fighter since coming off the testosterone therapy, looked like a shell of his former self.

The American ex-pat who now calls Australia home stung Benoit right out of the gate and never gave him a chance to recover, eventually taking the back, flattening Benoit out and lacing up the rear naked choke midway through the opening frame. The win over eleventh ranked Silva snapped a two-fight losing streak for the “Super Samoan”. “I trained really hard”.
