Motherwell are close to bringing Mark McGhee back for a second spell as manager.

And McGhee, who was in charge from 2007 to 2009, guiding them to a third-place finish and European football for the first time in 13 years, is determined his squad will put in the graft to haul Well up the table.

The 58-year-old was in charge at Fir Park for two years before leaving to join Aberdeen in 2009.

‘I have met them briefly – I have not given them the fancy speech, ‘ he added. I have told them there is not any shortcut. I’m not coming in with a magic formula or magic powder but I’ll will come in with a stopwatch and a whistle and I will be using them.

“There will be those that see it one way and those that see it another, but what I then did was that I felt I proved myself to them”.

Despite the appointment, McGhee has said he is willing to stay on the national team’s coaching team as well if Scotland decide to keep him on after their failure to qualify for Euro 2016. And I still get thanks from (ex-Motherwell owner) John Boyle for that. It was a very special night.

“That is a huge disappointment and I feel like Gordon does, culpability in that”.

“We are all waiting to hear how that is going to fall”. He will make his own decision but I hope he continues. There has been progress and I think we deserve to be judged by results.

“There are so many cappuccinos you can drink and if anyone wants to know about the best cappuccinos in East Sussex then I am your man. But I have had enough of that”.
