The 29-year-old Sanchez, who is in his eighth National Football League season, underwent minor surgery Saturday to fix a torn ligament in the left thumb.

The door that is opened by this injury is probably most impactful for Trevor Siemian, who will open OTAs as the player leading the first-team offense while likely splitting some reps with Paxton Lynch.

Mark Sanchez will miss the first few days of OTAs next week after undergoing surgery to fix a ligament in his left, non-throwing hand.

The eight-year veteran suffered the injury while working in the weight room Thursday as part of team-wide strength-and-conditioning work.

The Broncos acquired Sanchez from the Philadelphia Eagles in return for a conditional seventh round pick in a trade this past March after Peyton Manning announced his retirement. He is 37-35 as a starter and is now the front-runner to replace Peyton Manning, who retired after winning the Super Bowl.
