Mark Zuckerberg celebrates new baby with plan to donate Facebook shares

His wife Priscilla Chan gave birth to the 7-pound, 8-ounce Max last week, but the 31-year-old newly-turned father posted the news on Facebook on Tuesday along with a photo of him with wife and the baby besides the letter written jointly by the parents. The couple did say once they’ve settled into their new “family rhythm” and return from maternity and paternity leaves, they will share more information.

In fact, when Gates caught wind of this news he praised the couple saying, “Max and every child will now grow up in a better world”.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, have welcomed a healthy baby girl. “We can’t wait to see what you bring to this world”, the letter said. “We can also help hundreds of millions of children get an education and save millions of lives by helping people avoid disease”, the Zuckerbergs added. We wish you a life filled with the same love, hope and joy you give us.

The new parents have set up the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative which is aimed that advancing “human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation”.

Zuckerberg will sell or gift no more than $1 billion of Facebook stock each year for the next three years and will retain his majority voting position in the company “for the foreseeable future”, the filing said. By committing to donate their massive fortune, the Zuckerbergs join a small but growing list of billionaires who have pledged to leave their assets and wealth to philanthropic causes.

In hopes to do what they can to make the world better for the next generation, the Zuckerbergs will launch the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. They’ve named her Max.

“Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities”, the letter read.
