Numerous stories are about those who lost their lives. We invite you to visit the memorial in 360 in 5 different videos.

At the same time, there was admittedly some trepidation. We read headlines from faraway places and think “glad that’s not us”. Too often, however, North Americans have come to conclusions about September 11 that can end up doing more harm than good when it comes to building trust and cohesion. At thirteen, I remember asking ‘what film is this?’ Mum shook her head and said ‘no, it’s real, love.

And McIntyre reported what he saw – smoke rising from the building. I remember not being able to recall a time when the entire street were all gathered in one place and it got to the point where the plumbers at the house next door even stopped what they were doing and had piled in to our living room to watch – all open mouthed, wide-eyed, and silent. “Viva Miller met me at the door and told me the first tower had been hit, presumably by terrorists”.

On this day, 15 years on from the day the world was turned on its ear, we remember, we mourn, we face the future with optimism tinged with trepidation. And visiting the Memorial at the first opportunity was something that we just had to do. The last two record when the North and South towers of the Trade Center collapsed.

Rosanne Hughes’ husband died on September 11, 2001, while he was on a work visit at the Windows on the World restaurant high in the World Trade Center’s North Tower.

On September 11, 2001, two hijacked airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center twin towers in NY, while one hijacked plane later crashed at the Pentagon office building in Washington, DC. The remains of only 1,640 people have been identified.

The museum contains a collection of 11,000-plus items, more than 40,000 photos, and several thousand oral histories from before, during and after 9-11.

On a day of unspeakable horror for NY and the entire nation, terrorists crashed the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

It is paradoxical that these views either closely resemble the beliefs held by fundamentalists and/or support proposals in the Western world that would make people with minority religious backgrounds the object of stigmatization. She had just found out she was pregnant with her daughter, Cadie Belle.

The attacks killed 2977 people. “They were not in themselves something I was interested in, but they functioned as a backdrop for the visual urban drama that did fascinate me”. Some of my friends had parents who worked at or near the Pentagon. But maybe they also felt some sense of relief to be at least steps away from the tragedy and already starting the long battle to recover and rebuild.

On this September 11, as America stops to remember, one former NYPD officer hopes you remember the victims, and she said, “I think it should be a tribute to the first responders and the survivors”. “And we will never forget that bad day”, said Ryan.

People flee the scene near New York’s World Trade Centre after terrorists crashed two planes into the towers Tuesday, September. I got on the subway and headed into Lower Manhattan.

The Memorial will be closed during this time and will reopen at 3:00 p.m., allowing the public to pay their respects. Admission is $24 general; $18 for veterans, seniors and college students; $15 for children 7-17.

Incredibly, the legacy of 9/11 and the ongoing fight against violent extremism continues to foment bigotry against Muslims, whether they are American citizens or refugees seeking an escape from the very brand of terror we abhor.
