Miami Marlins All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed Saturday night in a boating accident in Miami, the club confirmed Sunday.
My thoughts go out to Fernandez’s family and the Marlins organization.
The Marlins are expected to officially announce the news at a press conference later this morning.
Authorities found the boat upside down after reportedly crashing into rocks, and the Marlins confirmed the bad news of Fernandez’s untimely demise with a brief statement on Sunday.
Three victims were found dead and rescuers continued searching for more people.
The boat involved in the crash is approximately thirty feet long.
Fernandez, 24, was one of the top young pitchers in baseball, a two-time All-Star and the National League Rookie of the Year in 2013.

Fernandez is 3-0 with a 1.34 ERA in eight career starts against the Mets.
