Marlins end Dodgers’ perfect game bid in eighth inning
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill has pitched seven flawless innings against the Miami Marlins on Saturday night, with left fielder Yasiel Puig making an outstanding diving catch for the final out of the seventh.

Kershaw pitched only three innings and needed 66 pitches to get through it. For 21 straight batters, there was no sniffing a baserunner against Hill, who is still yet to allow a run in three starts with the Dodgers. If he qualified he would easily have the league’s lowest xFIP and ERA, while his 33.0 strikeout rate is approaching his career high of 33.8 percent, set in 2015.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill was removed after throwing seven ideal innings against the Miami Marlins on Saturday night.
Catcher J.T. Realmuto put the Marlins ahead 1-0 when he belted Kershaw’s sixth pitch of the game to left for his 10th home run of the season.
Sidelined since June 26 with a mild disk herniation, Kershaw started and pitched three innings in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-1 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday night.
Kershaw struck out five and threw 46 strikes.
Mike Napoli launched a blast into the upper deck at Target Field for his 32nd home run of the season. Statcast estimated the blast at 463 feet.
In the first seven games of the month, they have split starts in right field depending on the handedness of the opposing starter, but on Saturday both are in the same lineup for the first time against Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler. Hill was a dominant road starter as an A, as he won each of his seven starts and only allowed seven runs in 44.2 road innings.
TORONTO – Rick Porcello pitched seven innings to become the first 20-game victor in the majors, Hanley Ramirez hit a three-run homer and the Boston Red Sox increased their AL East lead to two games by routing the Toronto Blue Jays 13-3 on Friday night.
– Yankees sensation Gary Sanchez homered.

TIGERS 4, ORIOLES 3: Victor Martinez hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth and host Detroit tied the Orioles for the AL’s second wild card. He looked sensational in his last start, giving up one hit in eight scoreless innings against the Athletics, but not so great the start before that (five earned runs in 5 1/3 innings versus the Royals). The victory improved the Cubs to an MLB-best 90-50. He’s 9-10, but a 3.87 ERA and a 4.10 FIP shows me that he’s a solid back-end arm.
