Marlins get OF Jeff Francoeur in 3-team trade

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Braves are sending outfielder Jeff Francoeur to the Marlins in a three-way trade also involving the Rangers. It appears the Rangers’ part in this deal involves receiving worldwide signing pool money from the Marlins to the Rangers.

No idea as to whether the Rangers or Braves would be receiving Foley, but we all know that the Braves thought very highly of Francoeur’s leadership on the team so its possible the Braves were able to squeeze another prospect out of the deal.

Francoeur, 32, has posted a subpar.249/.290/.381 triple-slash line with seven home runs and 33 RBI in 276 plate appearances. He’s owed the balance of a $1 million salary for this season and will be a free agent this winter.

With outfielder Giancarlo Stanton likely out for the rest of the regular season and possibly the postseason if Miami makes it, the Marlins now have a right-handed hitting outfielder to place in their lineup. If circumstances demand, manager Don Mattingly can form a workable platoon with the recently acquired Orlando Arcia and Francoeur. A seventh round draft pick by the Rangers in the 2015 MLB Draft, Moore has been on fire since being called up to High-A ball, batting.351/.400/.649 in 17 games. This season he has batted.263/.377/.440 across two levels of the minors this season.
