Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton wins Home Run Derby, hits 61
Over the years Giancarlo Stanton has become one of the top sluggers in the Major League Baseball and he demonstrated just how good he is in Home Run Derby yesterday.

Todd Frazier went down fighting Monday before losing to Giancarlo Stanton in the 2016 Home Run Derby.
Stanton can defend his title at home next year when the Marlins host the All-Star Game.
Like Stanton, Abreu had a first round in which he hit two dozen home runs, a record at the time. Stanton is hitting only.233 this season, but he does have 20 home runs and 50 RBIs. Stanton was always going to rake in the Derby, but no one knew just how much.
Major League home run leader Mark Trumbo and Padres hometown favorite Wil Myers were among those challenging defending champion Todd Frazier.
For one game of their choosing, the Marlins promised to slash ticket prices one percent for every homer that Stanton hit in the Derby. 20 of those 61 came in the final where he ousted Frazier, winning 20-13 at Petco Park in San Diego. For someone with the raw strength of Stanton, making him a five-seed in a Home Run Derby is like making the UConn women a five-seed in the NCAA Tournament – it’s just wrong. And it ranks 15th in promoting home runs, playing nearly perfectly neutral. He played a slightly different tune Monday, slugging a shocking 61 home runs. He beat Colorado’s Carlos Gonzalez 13-12 in the first round and Cincinnati’s Adam Duvall 16-15 in the semis. And while most everyone is awed and amazed at Stanton’s prowess with the bat, it’s actually going to cost the Marlins. “I’d like to return the favor”. It was even more shocking when Mark Trumbo followed with 16 of his own to eliminate Seager. “I figure it’s a waste if I don’t bring this bad boy home”, he said, per the Associated Press (via ESPN.com). The ball began to carry a bit more, a few drifted toward center field, and 15 cleared the fences once his time was up.
“I was really happy, obviously, that he thought of me”, Seager said.

Cano went from longshot to impossibility in a mesmerizing first-round performance by Stanton. The deal will be good for any of 35 future home games. In all, Stanton covered 27,190 feet (5.1 miles), which comes out to an average distance of 445.7 feet per home run.
