The 26-year-old powerhouse looks to continue to come up with the clutch hit on Wednesday afternoon as the host Marlins play the rubber match of their three-game series with the Giants. The team will be responsible for the remainder of the $62.5 million, six-year contract he signed with the Dodgers in early 2015.

With 13 national titles, a record seven Heisman Trophy winners and 97 consensus All-Americans, Notre Dame is known for football.

“(Bonds) didn’t think it was a strike, and I didn’t either”, Johnson said.

Bonds was in the dugout when plate umpire Cory Blaser gave him the thumb.

“We came up with a plan”, Marlins manager Don Mattingly said.

If it makes you feel any better, his teammates don’t really know what to say anymore either. And replays showed he and Johnson had a legitimate complaint. “That’s baseball. Human error is part of the game”.

Arizona’s Oscar Hernandez hit his first major league homer in the 12th inning to lift the Diamondbacks past the New York Mets 3-2.

The Marlins didn’t hit much with or without their hitting coach.

Samardzija (10-8) snapped a three-game losing streak, pitching 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

Four relievers completed a five-hitter.

Ichiro (3,002 career hits) moved past Roberto Clemente for 29th on the all-time hits list.

Werth was 2 for 3 and had three runs while Anthony Rendon hit a two-run double.

“He had a great series”, manager Bruce Bochy said.

MIAMI (AP) – Two days after Brandon Crawford battered the Miami Marlins with seven hits, he beat them with one swing.

Astros 7, Twins 5 • Carlos Correa homered and drove in four runs, leading Houston in Minnesota.

“Whoever said solo home runs don’t beat you is a liar”, Phelps said. “I was telling myself not to walk (Crawford)”. That’s what happens when you do that.

Phelps (5-6), making his second start of the season after moving from the bullpen into the rotation, pitched five innings and allowed one run on Crawford’s homer.

After Phelps escaped that jam in the bottom half of the fifth, Ichiro and Realmuto reached, and with two outs pinch hitter Giancarlo Stanton stepped to the plate, spelling the end of Phelps’ outing. Mattingly said he hopes Stanton will be able to return to the starting lineup for the Marlins’ next game Friday.

Texas has won five in a row, including three straight against the Rockies in games where they trailed going into the eighth inning.

BLUE JAYS 7, RAYS 0 (at Toronto) – J.A. Happ and three relievers combined on a four-hitter as Happ (16-3) became the first 16-game victor in the majors and Troy Tulowitzki had a season-high five RBI for Toronto.
