Marlins’ Ichiro Suzuki reaches 3000 Major League Baseball hits with triple
Miami Marlins’ Ichiro Suzuki goes up to the plate to bat against the Colorado Rockies during the eighth inning of a baseball game, Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, in Denver.

Ichiro, 42, hit a seventh-inning triple off Rockies pitcher Chris Rusin to become the 30th member of the 3,000-hit club.
Ichiro Suzuki closed in on baseball immortality and Giancarlo Stanton struck like lightning, but it was the Rockies who rolled like thunder.
Alex Rodriguez, one of baseball’s biggest stars, is the only other active player on the 3,000 hit list.
Paired with Friday night’s comeback win, the Marlins took two of three games from the Rockies in a pivotal series at Coors Field.
“When you consider also what he accomplished in Japan, Ichiro was and is an global baseball superstar”, Mariners chairman Howard Lincoln said in a statement. It was only fitting he flashed both in his historic moment.
Ichiro Suzuki became the first Japanese player ever to reach 3000 hits in Major League Baseball (MLB) history. Ichiro, who reached the milestone with a triple on Sunday, played three seasons with the Yankees from 2012-14. “It was a good swing but not the type of attack you should have with that so I said if he throws me that again I’m going to do what I should have done 3-0 and he did”. “I have a special relationship with him and having something like this, that is the same thing he accomplished, makes it more special”. He is now one shy of reaching his 100th career home run.
Colorado also squandered a breakout day from Nolan Arenado, who is putting his offensive struggles of the past month behind him.
DETROIT – Neil Walker’s two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning powered NY to just its fourth win in 12 games with a victory over Detroit.
David Dahl and Nick Hundley hit run-scoring singles, and Blackmon’s bases-loaded single brought home the final two runs in the inning.
Jon Gray (8-5) was roughed up for eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
“We want to play out front and our offense is helping us do that”, Weiss said.
Third base coach Lorenzo Bundy hugged Suzuki as Miami players came out of the dugout to congratulate him.
The only disappointment for fans came in the 9th when Miami’s Ichiro Suzuki grounded out in his first try at 3,000 hits.

Known for his trademark bat control and his durability, Suzuki is a lock for the Hall of Fame.
