Marlins’ Jose Fernandez killed in Miami boating accident
A three-year-old GIF of Jose Fernandez was making the rounds online again on Sunday morning, following news of the 24-year-old Miami Marlins pitcher’s sudden death. Two of the men were found in the 32-foot boat and one in the water around 3:30 a.m, the Miami-Dade County Sheriff Lorenzo Velos said at a press conference.

A Cuban native, Fernandez defected to the US with his mother and sister when he was just 15 years old. “To get his family here, and as the same time be focused to [follow through] with his career and go to school and be a great baseball player”.
“There’s a place I kind of go to watch film of us, and usually I turn the sound off, but sometimes I get the announcers’ call and I hear the words “must win, ‘” Showalter said”.
“There was just joy with him when he played”, Mattingly said.
It was one of the many moments that showed the obvious joy with which Fernandez played.
The team cancelled Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. The Marlins released a statement which read, “The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez”.
“Deep in our hearts there is a lot of pain”, third baseman Martin Prado said. Given the nature of Fernandez’s passing, you knew it was going to be an emotional scene on Sunday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium. “Maybe one of the best arms that was ever going to play in the game”. “He brought nothing but intensity and passion”, Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price tweeted.
Their boat was traveling southbound toward Government Cut when it struck the north end of the jetty at, Veloz said, “what appeared to be full speed”. Veloz said the jetty was not visible.
For Jays’ president Mark Shapiro, the tragedy recalled spring training of 1993 when he was working for the Cleveland Indians and two of the team’s pitchers, Tim Crews and Steve Olin, died in a boating accident.
Showalter said he planned to reach out to Marlins manager Don Mattingly, who played for Showalter with the New York Yankees and is a good friend.
Of course, Major League Baseball has been mourning Fernandez on social media this morning, and the Dodgers were no exception.
There was no indication that alcohol or illega drugs were involved, authorities said.
News spread shortly after it was announced that the young star was killed in a boating accident in Miami Harbor. The number was also painted on the mound, and flowers rested on the rubber.
Fernandez on Tuesday posted a photo on Instagram of his girlfriend, Carla Mendoza, who was pregnant with their child.
“I am so glad you came into my life”.

“One of those games that I’m not sure we look forward to playing”, Collins said.
