Marlins on hook for discounted tickets thanks to Stanton’s HR Derby
His three-round total of 61 home runs set a new record for the event.

The Marlins sent out a ticket offer to Marlins fans who previously purchased tickets with a fun little ticket promotion tied to Stanton’s performance in the Home Run Derby. Two more landed just under the scoreboard in left. But Trumbo, also known for his mammoth power, hit in eight in a row at one point and overtook Seager, ending his round early on his 16th blast, including 12 homers longer than 425 feet. Stanton reached the final by defeating the Orioles’ Mark Trumbo, who leads the majors with 28 homers. The competition consists of three timed rounds in a single elimination bracket, each round with head-to-head matchups.
The second round semifinal carried pace with the juggernauts Trumbo and Stanton meeting and Frazier and Duvall doing battle on the other side of the bracket. The 61 home runs he hit were more than the Atlanta Braves hit in the first half of the season.
When it was all said and done, this year’s derby was just too much Giancarlo Stanton.
“I knew I could do it endurance-wise”, Stanton said. They are joined by a trio of first-time derby participants in Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Duvall and first-time All-Star and host Wil Myers of the San Diego Padres.
Shine returned the favor in complimenting Stanton.
The competition is rather primitive, with only one real objective: bashing a lot of home runs a long way. “I’m just happy that he’s here”.

His opening round left 2011 Derby champion Robinson Cano in the distance after he only hit seven home runs. The highlight of the night had to be the 24 home run barrage in the first round, where his colossal skyscraping homers were as impressive as his 450-foot line drives that somehow, impossibly, were still rising as they went over the fences. “I figure it’s a waste if I don’t bring this bad boy home”. He shouldn’t have a problem next year, either, when, barring injury, he’ll defend his crown at Marlins park, where he’s already done plenty of damage (literally). Since hitting the big leagues in 2010, no one in the National League has as many long balls as Giancarlo (201).
