Miami starter Jose Urena (1-4) couldn’t recover from a rough first inning in which he allowed five runs, a walk and four hits.

DeSclafani (7-1) overcame an injury scare of his own in the fourth inning when he limped off the field after twisting his left ankle while being doubled off first base.
Tony Cingrani worked around Ichiro Suzuki’s leadoff triple and a walk in the ninth to get his 14th save in 19 chances.
Phelps (6-6) struck out the side in the first on his way to a season-high eight – one short of matching his career high – while allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings.
“That first inning was tough”, said Urena, recalled from Triple-A New Orleans before the game.
Following three consecutive two-out singles, Urena walked Ivan De Jesus to force home the tying run.
Miami Marlins’ Martin Prado, right, slide into second base with a double as Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart waits for the throw during the first inning of a baseball game, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, in Cincinnati.
EARLY NIGHT: Miami manager Don Mattingly was ejected in the bottom of the third inning by plate umpire Bill Welke after complaining to the third base umpire about a ruling that Tucker Barnhart didn’t swing at a pitch. “When I hit the ball the other way, I don’t necessarily expect it to go out, but I hit it pretty good”.
Miami’s Christian Yelich belted his 13th home run of the season off Raisel Iglesias in the eighth inning. “You’ve got to make a pitch”. “I had bad luck on two routine fly balls that carried out”. “I got ahead in the count and was looking for a heater”. “But at Great American Ball Park “ where the walls are just 325 feet away down the lines “ it landed just over the fence for a home run. “That’s kind of the way I’m taking it right now”.
WE’RE NO. 1: Anthony DeSclafani’s balk with Dee Gordon on third base in the third inning was the major league-leading ninth balk committed by the Reds this season.
“He gave us what we needed tonight”, Barnhart said of DeSclafani.
“After the first inning, he was good”, said Mattingly, adding that Urena would stay in Miami’s rotation for now. “When in doubt, it’s sinker in, then gets ground ball after ground ball”.
Reds: CF Billy Hamilton left Monday’s game after five innings with a right knee contusion. He left Monday night’s game after twice crashing into the wall. He sustained the injury Sunday. Cincinnati is coming off a loss and while they have suffered many of those this season they still have some pop in their bats with Joey Votto and Adam Duvall on the roster and heading into this game with their top pitcher on the bump they are -140 favourites at home. Cincinnati placed RHP Michael Lorenzen on the bereavement list and recalled fellow RHP Tim Adleman from Triple-A Louisville.
