Marlins shut down by Hellickson in 4-1 loss to Phillies
The likelihood of Jeremy Hellickson returning to Citizens Bank Park and donning red pinstripes when the Phillies return from their upcoming road trip is probably equal to the chances that Mike Schmidt steps out of the broadcasters’ booth and reboots his playing career for the season’s final two months. So I hope you’ve said your goodbyes.

Hellickson, 29, can become a free-agent at the end of the season.
When the Phillies picked Hellickson up from Arizona last November for low-level pitcher Sam McWilliams, he was brought in for a few purposes ranging from veteran leadership to the eating of innings to the possibility of being a valuable trade chip in July if he was effective enough.
The Philadelphia Phillies host the Miami Marlins for the third game of a four game series.
“I don’t know what’s going on in the outside, but if anyone has interest, I’m sure they had to be impressed tonight”, Mackanin said after the game.
The Marlins are among a host of teams looking at the 29-year-old right-hander as a potential target leading up to the August 1 non-waiver trade deadline. Hellickson limited Miami to one run and five hits in eight innings on Wednesday, his longest outing of the season.
“Outstanding”, Mackanin said of the performance. So did Hellickson, who could make his next start with another team while the Phillies advance their reconstruction.
“I was pretty much refreshed”, Velasquez said. I want to win here.
“I’m just happy to see everybody not panicking when we don’t need to”, Prado said. “I was a little concerned. My focus is here right now”. “We just played it out, all the way like 27 outs, you never know what’s going to happen”. “We know we’re going to have to continue to do that in the second half if we want to go where we think we’re headed”.
Getting game action for the first time in 10 days, partially thanks to the All-Star break, Goeddel made the most of his opportunity knocking in the first three runs the Phillies scored Wednesday night. He will not change a contending team’s fate, but he can be a useful addition – think Joe Blanton in 2008. In 17 starts, they were a combined 3-6 with a 6.04 ERA.
In a matchup of 24-year-olds, Miami starter Jose Urena and Philadelphia’s Vince Velasquez pitched well although neither got a decision.
That should play quite nicely for Matt Klentak and company before his first trade deadline as a major league general manager.
“It’s always frustrating when things aren’t going right”, Hernandez said. The last time out, against St. Louis, he lasted just four innings, allowing four runs and seven hits while striking out four and walking three.
Despite the loss, the Marlins still maintain sole possession of the second National League Wild Card with a 51-43 record.
“Sometimes you’ve got to win games in different ways”. “You’ve just got to make your pitches and keep the ball down to (Stanton)”.
It was a mindset that worked well against the Marlins throughout the night. “He looked a little bit more determined than I’ve seen in the past”.

Jeremy Hellickson’s trade value is on the rise. He added: “My focus is here and on my next start”.
