Marquise Goodwin: Marquise Goodwin ‘banged up’ after Trials

The Buffalo Billswide receiver and 2012 Olympian advanced to Sunday’s men’s long jump final, but just barely.

“Now that this is over, I get to stop eating like a bird and get into some real food”, Goodwin said, via NewYorkUpstate.com.

Bills wideout Marquise Goodwin was trying to make the U.S. Olympic team, competing as a long jumper.

Goodwin finished in seventh place with a 27-foot, 3/4-inch jump, well short of Jeffery Henderson’s 1st place jump of 28 feet, 2 1/4 inches.

“That was the goal – just advance to the finals”, said Goodwin.

It was close, but Marquise Goodwin qualified for Sunday’s Olympic trial finals.

The receiver took the last spot for the United States long jump trials after he jumped a 25-8 during the event on Saturday. He said then that he wasn’t anxious about not making the team and pointed out that he made the 2012 USA team despite being 10th in the preliminary round at that year’s trials. He just needs a little rest before getting back to the gridiron.

Goodwin’s wife, Morgan, is also attempting to qualify for the Olympics in the 100 meter hurdles. “It’s a new day”.

Goodwin, who was on the 2012 Olympic team in the same event, finished seventh, but called himself “blessed” after the event because “all I can ask for is an opportunity”. Goodwin should be in attendance at training camp in the best shape of his life (albeit with a body built to run track).
