Donald Trump Jr. has been left with rainbow coloured egg on his face after a controversial tweet comparing Syrian refugees to a bowl of poisoned Skittles. “Would you take a handful”, the meme asked.

Donald Trump Jr. was widely condemned Monday on social media for his tweet comparing poisoned candy to Syrian refuges.

In 2015, Democratic President Barack Obama announced plans to admit 10,000 Syrian refugees this year, sparking fierce criticism, mostly from Republicans who said the plan could put Americans at risk.

On his Flickr account, Mr Kittos wrote: “Please do not use my images for any goal, commercial or otherwise (this includes linking from your blog or website), unless you have my written permission”.

Now, it turns out the images was taken by a Cypriot-born man who fled to Britain in 1974 from the Turkish occupation of the Mediterranean island. “This was not done with my permission, I don’t support Trump’s politics and I would never take his money to use it”, he told the BBC.

And Kittos tells the BBC he was once a refugee himself.

“I haven’t put the image for sale, and it was all rights reserved, so no, I wasn’t really expecting anyone to want to take it”, Kittos said.

Seeking to promote his father’s presidential campaign, the younger Trump posted a tweet featuring a bowl of the candy Skittles with a warning.

Wrigley, the parent company to Skittles, is taking a stand against Donald Trump Jr.’s racist use of the candy brand!

“I was just experimenting with something called off-camera flash”, Kittos said of the now viral image.

“This isn’t about the money for me”. Obvious as it may be, we also believe that this tweet says it all – it is another inappropriate analogy and a misleading statement contradictory to one of America’s most cherished values, as well as a dog whistle for broader Islamophobia. “And yes, for the record, I would eat all of them”.

In a response to U.S. reporters, a representative for Skittles said: “Skittles are candy.

It was quite frightening for all people who had to do it, especially for the people who actually lost family and not just their belongings”, he said.
