Marshall’s Gase is new Miami Dolphins coach

The Dolphins interviewed seven candidates, including former National Football League head coaches Mike Shanahan, Mike Smith and Doug Marrone, and completed their search in six days.

“Slight issues” remain on the negotiating table as ESPN reported, but for all intents and purposes, Gase could be announced as the Dolphins head coach as early as Saturday.

Gase was the Bears’ offensive coordinator last season and was credited with helping Cutler achieve a career-best 92.3 passer rating and cut his interceptions to 11, the best of his career over a full season. But he’s earned a strong reputation for his work the last three seasons as an offensive coordinator, first with the Broncos and then this season with the Bears. “I think he needs a guy that’s going to have his back, that he’s going to feel comfortable with right out the gate”.

Adam Gase is very smart, and is one of those coaches that will adjust his scheme and game-plan to the talent he has on the field.

Gase also spent time as a quarterbacks coach, though not with the Bears. Gase has the task of turning around the Dolphins after a 6-10 finish in 2015.

Gase did not make any predictions on Ryan Tannehill and admitted to not seeing a lot of film on the quarterback but said that it will all be about evaluation, of all the players.

He interviewed for the Dolphins vacancy on Thursday and met with team officials again Saturday to finalize his new deal.

San Francisco is expected to interview Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson on Sunday, though his agent, John Thornton, hasn’t returned requests to confirm the meeting.

But the top line on Gase’s resume was the NFL-record 606 points scored by the Denver Broncos in 2013. Gase, in fact, was the only staffer Saban took with him from Michigan State when he left for LSU. Where Tannehill may not be as good as Eli Manning, he has a much better roster to work around in Miami. Miami hasn’t won a playoff game since the 2000 season. Adam Gase did a great job while in Denver with the Broncos offense and working with players like Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas, and it looks like he could do the same in Miami.
