Marshmallow finally jumps past 1% in Android distribution chart

While most of the Samsung new flagships are getting ready to be upgraded to the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, there are older or have weaker specs that are barely receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

Each month Google releases statistics that show Android distribution among different versions of the operating system.

That’s obviously not impressive, given how many months have already passed since its official release (almost four, actually).

In addition, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes with a new Material Design (it’s cleaner and has more vivid colors), bug fixes, advanced security and better device sync. For reference, these figures are relative to the seven-day period leading up to and ending on February 1st. This is up from the previous month in which Marshmallow had climbed to 0.7-percent. With that said, it is important to remember that despite the relatively minuscule percentage, that means that Marshmallow is now on over 12 million Android devices.

The Android adoption order is still unchanged: KitKat in first place, Lollipop in second, Jelly Bean in third, Gingerbread in fourth, ICS in fifth, Marshmallow in sixth, and Froyo in seventh. Android 4.1 is on 8.8 percent, Android 4.2 at 11.7 percent and Android 4.3 is 3.4 percent.

Android 2.2 Froyo is now the lowest distribution with 0.1%, down from 0.2%, but that makes flawless sense since this version of Android was launched back in 2010.

According to the latest data, Android 4.4.x KitKat is going down steadily in the charts and now powers 35.5 percent devices compared to 36.1 percent last month – a decrease of 0.6 percent.
