‘Martian’ back on top
On the other hand, Gravity, a box office comparison for The Martian, spent three weekends at number one and its fourth in second.

New release “Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension” ($8.2 million) and newly wide “Steve Jobs” ($7.3 million) trail at #6 and #7, respectively.
Paramount’s latest chapter of “Paranormal Activity” competed with “Goosebumps” for the Halloween-eager crowd, taking in $3.3 million from 1,656 locations on Friday.
“Steve Jobs” movie’s opening weekend was underwhelming, placing 7th overall at the box office in North America.
Though we don’t normally venture beyond the top 10, just a quick mention of two other poor performing new arrivals, as Bill Murray comedy Rock The Kasbah crashed into 13th place with $1.5 million (from 2,012 screens, so this wasn’t exactly a limited release) and another real disappointment for Universal, Jem And The Holograms, with the adaption of the toys/cartoon series doing truly, truly, outrageously badly and landing with a splat in 15th off of $1.3 million. “Jem’s” $5 million budget (courtesy of low-budget specialist Blumhouse) means it won’t be too huge of a financial blow to the studio. He’s worth more than $2 million on opening weekend. The holiday falls on a Saturday, the busiest day for moviegoing, so studios were hoping to steer clear of what is shaping up to be a dead period by pushing lots of new content into this weekend. The film barely managed to crack the top five and is just flirting with $10 million at the weekend box office. And Steven Spielberg’s Bridge Of Spies held on well, making $11.3 million despite a smaller cinema screen count than the top two.
On the plus side, Ghost Dimension is outpacing The Marked Ones internationally by 4%, opening in 33 global markets and grossing an estimated $18 million, for a $26.2 million worldwide cume. “Over the previous month we have had on common a minimum of three new vast launch movies getting into the marketplace each week”, Dergarabedian stated. Universal’s Steve Jobs earned $294,000 in 1,748 theaters with shows beginning at 8 p.m. while Jem and the Holograms grossed $34,000 in 944 theaters after shows kicked off at 7 p.m. We’re not going to hold our breath in any regards. Hotel Transylvania 2, meanwhile, flapped its vampire bat wings and stayed in fifth place with $9 million.
Despite an aggressive ad campaign by Universal and numerous talk show appearances from Boyle and star Michael Fassbender, people showed about as much interest in the film as they did the Apple Watch. The movie will probably be obtainable digitally 17 days after it leaves theaters versus the standard ninety days.
Failing to break the top-five this weekend were several major releases.
But that was better than Universal’s “Jem and the Holograms”.
Finally, Suffragette opened in limited on four screens with $77,000. It was earning more than The Martian is in weekend four ($20.1 million) as well.
