He represented Somerset between 1984 and 1988.
“Despite his serious illness, he was at the forefront of promoting the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 when he made special appearances in New Zealand to talk about the sport he loved and the way it should be played”.
He admitted to burning his New Zealand blazer following the decision to replace Ross Taylor as national captain in favor of Brendon McCullum. “Thoughts are with family, friends and the entire cricketing community”.
Stephen Fleming, the former New Zealand captain, hailed Crowe as “one of our true greats”.
Stirling hadn’t seen as much of Crowe as he would have liked recently because Crowe was sick, but said New Zealand had lost its greatest batsman.
They come from a talented family and there could be no clearer sign of the closeness between Russell and Martin Crowe than the heartfelt message the Academy Award-winning actor posted in the wake of his cousin’s death. You were the BEST I ever bowled against and a top human being.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella tweeted that Crowe was one of his favourite cricketers, epitomising grace and style.
Crowe captained the Black Caps to a World Cup semi-final in 1992 and scored over 10,000 runs for his country in all formats. He was the brains behind the fore runner to T20 called “Cricket Max” here in New Zealand.
He retired in 1996 due to a knee injury and went on to work as a television pundit.
Former England all-rounder Ronnie Irani (@RonnieIrani1): “Very sad news learning New Zealand Cricketer and All Time Great Martin Crowe has died”. The ex-Black Caps batsman had been suffering from lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system, for a second time, reports BBC.
“My friend & tough taskmaster Lymphoma is back to teach me”.
Martin Crowe said his diagnosis had helped him realise what was important in life.
New Zealand’s run to the World Cup cricket final last March featured prominently in Crowe’s last months.
“An inspiration to me and so many others”, he tweeted.
‘I took too long to grow up, and now I’ve got that perspective on what my life should be about I’ve probably never been happier’. I will gasp for air on occasions. “I don’t know that I really feel I belong, but it’s nice”.

Crowe is survived by his wife Lorraine Downes, daughter Emma and his step children Hilton and Jasmine.
