Seattle Mariners’ Leonys Martin (12) heads to first as fans cheer after he hit a solo walk-off home run in the 11th inning of a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in Seattle. He appeared in two games with the Mariners, hitting two home runs. He then drove an 0-2 pitch from Dan Jennings (3-2) over the wall in right for his 13th homer. His previous season high was eight homers in 457 at-bats with Texas in 2013. “But after the first inning, at that point if you’d have told me he was gonna get as deep as he did in the game, I probably wouldn’t have believed it. I was really happy he was able to do that”. “Hard for a veteran player to do that, but he’s a good teammate, he worked his tail off. He’s a big league player, we’ve just got to get him back and get him going”. Seattle reliever Vidal Nuno (1-1) earned the win after pitching a scoreless top of the 10th.

Zunino’s two-run shot pulled the Mariners within 5-4.

On Monday night, Sox closer David Robertson blew a three-run lead, giving up the winning run on Adam Lind’s three-run, walk-off homer.

Hernandez, activated off the disabled list earlier in the day, allowed five runs on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Now about the King, who was making his first start since May 27.

“It feels good to be out there, try and do my job to help my team to win”, said Hernandez, who threw 94 pitches.

“I’m realistic on expectations today, not looking for a complete game shutout”, manager Scott Servais said. They were swinging, swinging at every pitch, and that’s why my pitch count didn’t get up.

Hernandez exited after the White Sox put runners at first and second with two outs in the seventh.

“It was a changeup”.

“We’re going to play him, I don’t know if it’s going to be every day, but certainly against right-handers and pick our spots against the lefties”, Servais said.

Hernandez struck out Eaton to begin the game, but Melky Cabrera followed with a double into the left-field corner. Morneau eventually walked, and Todd Frazier, the next man up, hit a home run into the bleachers in left field.

He allowed another run in the second inning on three consecutive singles. Martin answered in the bottom half.

The Mariners trailed 5-2 when Chicago went to its bullpen after Miguel Gonzalez started the seventh inning by walking Lind. Seattle also recalled C Mike Zunino and LF Norichika Aoki from Triple-A Tacoma. 262 with four home run and 25 RBIs in 73 games with Tacoma this season.

Twins 4, Tigers 1: Max Kepler and Eddie Rosario homered off Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth, and Minnesota scored three runs in the inning to beat Detroit.

“It’s tough, especially when you’re leading both of the ones you lose late”, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. “I thought his stuff was good, thought he was pretty crisp”. But Cano grounded into an inning-ending double play, leaving the Mariners still down one run. Lind followed with a solo homer.

RH Mike Pelfrey (2-9, 4.95) vs. RH James Shields (4-11, 5.10). Gonzalez is just 1-2 over his last three starts but has a 2.25 ERA during that time. It was the their fifth defeat on a six-game road trip that began against the last-place Los Angeles Angels and their sixth loss in seven games.

Hernandez, 30, is 4-4 with a 2.86 ERA over 63 innings this season, with 53 strikeouts and 26 walks in 10 starts.

Quintana allowed six hits in six innings and struck out seven.
