Martin Luther King Jr. Day marked with song at Toronto school

“We live in a larger society where there’s still discrimination and judgement based on race”. Marcelli said she hopes they understand the significance of the day. “And it’s really just getting students involved in the community, which is really important while they’re here”.

The city of Fort Myers came together at Centennial Park to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. From City Hall, the crowd marched to the Fresno Veterans Memorial Auditorium.

“It’s for my son”.

Alyssa Bowden made sure her three daughters didn’t miss out. “There’s just so much negativity for black males. I just want to see kids reach their full potential in life”.

There may not be a march or a speech, but King’s impact on Augusta is undeniable nearly 50 years after his final visit.

A couple living along the route stepped out on their porch to applaud as the group passed by their home on 1300 East. “We still have a lot of work to do”.
