Martin Shkreli blames drug price increases for arrest
A conviction could see Shkreli, who stepped down as Turing’s CEO (Drug price gouger Martin Shkreli resigns from Turing Pharmaceuticals), face a 20-year jail term.

The charges against Shkreli predate his management of either Turing or KaloBios. In the indictment, he is accused of diverting capital from another pharmaceutical company, Retrophin, in order to pay back investors who lost money in his fund, among other charges.
At the moment Shkreli remains at the helm of KaloBios, a company which he joined as CEO last month, although The Street has suggested that efforts are already underway to achieve a separation.
Shkreli, 32, was arrested Thursday morning in NY on securities fraud charges related to one of his previous companies, Retrophin Inc.
Shkreli and Tony Chase also resigned from the board of directors, the drugmaker said Monday in a statement. The drug to be tested was KB003, which was being developed to treat a form of leukemia. Its shares tumbled 70 percent in January after its drug for lung infections failed in testing. He had also said the price hike would help the company develop new drugs.
In a Saturday tweet, Shkreli said that the fraud allegations against him are “baseless and without merit”. The company announced it would shut down right before Shkreli and a group of investors swooped in with cash and pledges of financing to keep it going.
Trading in KaloBios shares was halted on Monday for the third straight session.
Pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli has been arrested. A Federal Bureau of Investigation official earlier said Shkreli pursued “a securities fraud trifecta of lies, deceit and greed”.
Pharma bad boy Martin Shkreli is griping that federal authorities charged him with securities fraud crimes because he teased people over the Internet, as well as because of his controversial price hike of a drug that helps HIV patients, a new report reveals.
The personal Twitter account of one of the most controversial men of the year has been hacked.
In September, Turing increased the price of a Damaprim pill from $13.50 to $750.
