NASCAR recently updated its rules for “encumbered” victory penalties during the postseason, but those are not be in effect for Truex Jr. because it was the lowest grade of failure for the LIS platform.
That marks Truex’s third win of the season, which puts him in the lead for the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
With the expectation of the penalties being announced Wednesday and nine more races remaining in the Chase, this won’t be the last time you’ll hear the term Laser Inspection Station this season. After the race, he said a hit from Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 vehicle caused the alignment to shift.
“So the reason I thought it was intentional was because we were on the straightaway it’s typically really easy not to run into someone’s left rear on a straightaway”, Truex said during a post-race interview.
“Harvick ran into us and bent our fender, I think on goal, and we had to come back from that”, Truex said after the race.

Furniture Row Racing president Joe Garone issued the following statement Monday in regards to the No. 78 auto failing post-race laser inspection Sunday at Chicagoland Speedway. “We believe the laser inspection numbers were correct and accept NASCAR’s decision that was made following Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway”.
