There were reports during the week that Stones was keen on the move and was trying to force a transfer, but Martinez insists the 21-year-old has expressed no desire to leave Goodison Park. “When you’ve got an essential participant you don’t need to let go, then somebody knocking on the door gained’t change it”. He also has the Euros coming up [with England].

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says he is not aware of any transfer request being made by Toffees defender John Stones. Premier League leaders City are closing in on deals of £56m for Wolfsburg midfielder De Bruyne and £32m for Valencia defender Otamendi.

Everton defender John Stones has been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United and Chelsea.

“He is playing and is learning a lot from Phil Jagielka”.

While Everton remain eager to resist any further offers for their top assets, it appears they are now in a position to strengthen their squad with at least two new additions before September’s transfer deadline. We are not a selling club who will lose our best performers. Stones will be a contender for a place alongside Gary Cahill in the competition, should he continue his good form with Everton. “My only concern is preparing for the game”.

He told reporters: “The only focus is on Man City on Sunday”.

“Of course, yes”, said the Everton manager in a news conference, as he suggested the forthcoming signing of Ramiro Funes Mori will not lead to the sale of Stones. They are always a hard team, they play very good football. However, the club and manager will know that it would send out the wrong message to keep the player from joining Chelsea against his will and their resolve is finally set to be broken.

Chelsea are adamant they want John Stones Everton want to keep him at all costs
