Marty Ingels, husband of Shirley Jones, dies at 79

Marty Ingels, a comedian, actor and talent agent who was married to actress Shirley Jones for almost 40 years, has died in Los Angeles.

Ingels passed away at the Tarzana Medical Center in the Los Angeles area after suffering a massive stroke, according to The Wrap.

Ingels began his career with TV appearances in the 1960s before landing a co-starring role opposite John Astin on ABC’s I’m Dickens, He’s Fenster.

Despite their drastically different personalities, Ingels married Academy Award victor Shirley Jones on November. 13, 1977.

‘He often drove me insane but there’s not a day I won’t miss him and love him to my core, ‘ said Jones, 81.

Born in Brooklyn as Martin Ingerman in 1936, Ingels served in the Army and moved on to become an actor. He also voiced characters for cartoons and video games.

His filmography includes “Instant Karma”, “Linda Lovelace for President”, “If It’s Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium”, “The Picasso Summer”, “For Singles Only”, “A Guide for the Married Man”, “The Busy Body”, “Wild and Wonderful”, “The Horizontal Lieutenant” and “Armored Command”. “As he himself said, ‘I was a Jewish kid from Brooklyn and she was Miss America”. “Rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but a lot of people the right way”.

In 1974, Ingles met Jones, who was then starring in The Partridge Family on TV. The couple also published an autobiography titled “Shirley & Marty: An Unlikely Love Story” in 1990.

Ingels found fame in the 1960s as a comic actor known for his zany style and rapid-fire, raspy-voiced delivery, Variety reported.

Ingels died in the Tarzana neighborhood following complications from a stroke, according to a statement issued on behalf of Jones by her manager, Milt Suchin.
