Maruti’s Premium Hatchback Baleno launched at Rs.4.99 lakh
To compete against cars like the Hyundai Elite i20 and Volkswagen Polo, it is now eyeing the premium hatchback space above the Swift.

Maruti Suzuki on Monday rolled out its premium hatchback Baleno with an aggressive price tag in a bid to cash in on the festive season. ‘So far we have exported cars to various countries in Europe and South American companies but never to Japan. The Baleno will be the first “Make in India and sell” global model for Maruti Suzuki. “Baleno is a real global model to satisfy our customers not only in India but also across global markets”, said MSI Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa, adding “the model comes with sophisticated design and advanced technology”. “This is our first ever export to Japan”, the company’s chief general manger of marketing Sanjeev Handa told media persons here on the sidelines of the car’s launch. It would be for the first time that a auto manufactured in India would be exported to Japan.
Other than the provisions on Delta, the Zeta trim of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno alloy wheels, illumination for glove box, luggage room, and front footwell, multi information speedometer display (with colour TFT), and leather-wrapped steering wheel. Crucial safety features such as dual airbags and anti-lock braking system (ABS) come in as a standard on the vehicle which also features the Apple CarPlay interface.
As per the company, the petrol variant of Baleno would deliver a fuel mileage of 21.4 kmpl while the diesel version would deliver a mileage of 27.39 kmpl. In Kolkata Baleno petrol variants ranged between Rs 5.23 lakh and 7.05 lakh, While diesel variants price band is 6.44-8.44 lakhs.

Transmission options include a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic (Petrol Only). We have sold on an average four thousand cars per month in NEXA segment (ie S CROSS) since its launch in August this year. During the April- September period of the current fiscal, around 2.9 lakh compact hatchbacks have been sold.
