Maruti Suzuki opens bookings for Baleno, the all-new premium hatchback

Kalsi informed the company will be leveraging on the synergies between NEXA and the existing chain of dealerships to retail the Baleno. Baleno will be the first auto in India to get Apple CarPlay. Kalsi declined to specify a sales target for the upcoming model but said that the company’s production facilities are fully geared to meet “whatever demand comes from the market”.

He said the auto will be exported to more than 100 markets, including Japan, after a couple of months following the global launch in India on October 26. It also gets full wheel caps, keyless entry, metal finish for door handles and parking brake, reverse parking sensors, MP3-enabled audio system, aux and USB along with Bluetooth, steering mounted controls, rear power windows with auto-up for the driver, electrically foldable ORVMs, adjustable rear head rest, climate control and 60:40 split rearseat. Baleno, the Dynamic, Energetic and Premium Hatchback will be the second model in three months to be offered through NEXA. The new auto will be available in seven colours.

The sub-four meter vehicle will also have features such as ultraviolet (UV) cut glasses, which can reduce the UV rays by up to 85 per cent. It comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS, EBD & seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters as standard fitment from the base variant onwards.

The company, along with its vendors, have spent ₹1,060 crore on design, development and categorisation of the components, Kalsi said. The booking amount has been set at Rs. 11,000.

Baleno, which will be competing with the likes of segment leader Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo, will be sold through the company’s new premium network of showrooms, Nexa.

While both engines will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the petrol version will get an option of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) as well.

This trim is available only with the petrol mill and has the same features as the Delta.
