Maruti Suzuki sales decline for January 2016

Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,13,606 units in January 2016, showing a de-growth of 2.6% YOY. Where company’s exports are concerned, for Jan 2016, 7,223 cars were exported, as against 11,047 cars exported in January 2015. The company’s domestic sales figures stood at 106,383 units as against 105,559 in 2015 which is a marginal growth of just.

Sales of vans-Omni and Eeco rose 3.9 percent to 10,512 units last month compared with 10,113 units in the year-ago period.

On the export front too, Maruti is seeing some pressure of slowing sales.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 8,793 units in the domestic market during the month as against 12,650 in January past year, down 30.49 per cent. “Our monthly sales have been affected and part of it is a repercussion of the recent ban on registration of diesel vehicles with engine capacity of more than 2000 cc in Delhi and NCR”, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Director and Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing N Raja said.

Domestic sales would have been higher, but lesser number of working days in January 2016 impacted overall production and dispatch.

And going by the wide range of new models lined up to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, we can be sure that the company continue to go from strength to strength in the coming months. Passenger auto sales declined by 1.4% to 87,757 units as against 89,014 units in the Jan’15, as per BSE data.

On the BSE, the company’s shares dropped sharply and were trading at Rs 4,000 apiece, lower by 2.36 per cent when the benchmark index had gained 0.3 per cent to stand at 24,946.

However, sales of other passenger cars, including Mini, Compact and Mid size, declined, with the mid-size Ciaz taking the biggest hit slipping by 9.6 per cent to 5,431 units.

Meanwhile European vehicle maker Volkswagen saw higher offtake at 4,018 units last month up from 3,734 units in January 2015.
