Marvel is “committing” to a solo Black Widow movie, says Kevin Feige
Speaking to Deadline during a Q&A for Civil War, Kevin Feige responded to the potential for movies starring heroes only seen in team-up films like Hawkeye and Black Widow.

That’s an arc that Joe and Anthony Russo – directors on Captain America: Civil War – drew attention to earlier this week, championing Scarlett Johansson’s former S.H.I.E.L.D.as the near-perfect candidate to topline a new spinoff movie under the MCU umbrella. Where we go beyond that is a discussion that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then.
When questioned further as to why, Feige said, “We think she’s an awesome character. She’s a lead Avenger and has awesome stories in her right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise”.
Marvel has supposedly been planning on eventually doing a solo Black Widow film for some time. He only said that after the current, ginormous slate of films over the next three years, Marvel is seriously considering a Black Widow movie. Is Feige merely paying lip service to the fans to keep them off his back until Mrarvel Studios is good and ready to make a Black Widow flick in whatever Phase they choose?

For the past several years, Feige has alternated between reassurances that a Black Widow movie is still in development at the studio, and excuses about why they aren’t making one. Black Widow is one of the most significant members of The Avengers, and Scarlett Johansson certainly has enough starpower to warrant an impressive box office outcome, so what’s the holdup? Sure, Marvel has their heads screwed on properly now, which is great, but having to wait until at least 2020 for some Black Widow solo spy action is still a bit of a tough pill. Moreover, even if she is getting a solo film, it sounds like it won’t be anytime soon. You can catch Johansson tearing the house down in Captain America: Civil War, now in theaters.
