Ezekiel Elliott had two short TD runs, Joey Bosa recorded a sack and several pressures and the Buckeyes extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 19. Ohio State could wear turquoise in that game, or uniform trousers with three legs.

“The attention to this thing, ” Meyer said, exhaling deeply, of the incessant quarterbacking questions.

Maryland comes into the game reeling after two tough losses and the team reportedly is considering firing head coach Randy Edsall. “He felt like J.T. brought an extra element in the red zone with a few things he was able to do in the running game and he was proved right”, he said.

At times, Hills seemed to be taking on the Ohio State defense by himself, eluding pass rushers and absorbing big hits throughout the afternoon. Jones had completed just 2-of-10 passes inside the 20, while the Buckeyes’ touchdown percentage on such trips (37.5) was 121st in the country.

“It was great”, Jones said of the dual-quarterback attack employed by Meyer.

Getting flagged for mistakes due to both over-aggressiveness and lack of discipline was another item Meyer said concerned the coaching staff on both offense and defense. After Ohio State missed a field goal, Maryland got the ball back at its 27 with 1:27 left in the half and was set back five yards on a false start. The Buckeyes scored four touchdowns on as many red zone possessions. “The effort was there and the energy and the demeanor was, and I think that’s big”. “They complemented each other perfectly”.

Outscored 73-6 the past two weeks, the Terrapins put up a fight amid speculation about Edsall’s future.

Edsall was hired by Maryland in 2011 from UConn and struggled in his first two seasons.

Edsall, 57, replaced Ralph Friedgen at Maryland after going 74-70 in 12 years at Connecticut. “I’ll watch the film”.

“I’ve got all the faith that he’s going to do well these next six games”, Anderson said. Duke transfer Jack Willoughby beat out last year’s kicker, Sean Nuernberger, but his miss from 44 yards makes him 0-for-3 from beyond 40 yards, and his longest is only 31. The Tesudo Times reported that the applause came from a smattering of Maryland boosters.

After needing a last-second defensive stop to survive a scare in their conference opener at Indiana last week, the Buckeyes figured to get themselves straightened out against the Terrapins, who were coming off a shutout at home against Michigan and were having to address Edsall’s status. “I’m disappointed in myself and how I played today”. He has received a fair amount of criticism this season in light of the team’s atrocious quarterback play. They went on to lose their final six games.

Still, Meyer came away pleased with his squad’s performance, though he’d prefer not to spend any more time dwelling on who is lining up behind center. Most of those tactical changes can be scrapped this week because Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg prefers to operate from the pocket (he has rushed for a net of minus-34 yards this season).

Three things we'll remember about the Randy Edsall era
