Maryland Governor Says He Has Cancer

With family members and staff by his side, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced today that he was diagnosed “a few days ago”, with B-cell non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

Hogan called the diagnosis “shocking news” and said the cancer has spread to his abdomen and was pressing up against his spine.

Gov. Hogan says he has a very strong chance of success, survival and beating this cancer altogether.

Governor Hogan, 59, who assumed workplace in January, launched the information throughout a convention in Maryland’s capital metropolis Annapolis.

Hogan said he has been feeling fine and is not in bad pain.

He said he is facing 18 weeks of “aggressive chemotherapy” treatment, feels good and plans to keep working, though he has small appetite. The Republican governor has promised to stay in office while he undergoes treatment, joking about his chances of beating it as compared to his political chances of winning.

Republican Maryland Governor Hogan defeated Democratic Governor Anthony Brown in November after a strenuous campaign which promised Marylanders deep tax cuts.

He said Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford is prepared to make decisions for the state during the times Hogan has to put to sleep for procedures, but other than that Hogan will continue acting as governor.

“Boyd has my back”, Hogan said Monday. Hogan had never held elected office. Plus, Mr. Priebus was assured that the governor would struggle most cancers “head on” since he had confirmed to be a fighter. But I won’t stop working to change Maryland for the better. At times he became choked up or emotional, as did his wife and grown daughters, who stood by him.

This latest challenge will require my attention and focus while balancing the demands of being the best public servant that i can be.

“I was stunned and saddened to learn about Governor Hogan’s illness”.

Hogan’s Twitter account was flooded by supporters who wished him well and offered prayers for him. He says he’ll continue on as Governor, but may miss a meeting or two during treatment.
