Officer 1st Class Jacai Colson died Sunday after he was accidentally shot by another officer in a shootout that erupted when a man opened fire unprovoked at police headquarters in Prince George’s County, Maryland, police said Monday.

Two brothers who filmed another brother shooting at drivers and police officers outside a Maryland police station will appear in court Wednesday for a bond review hearing. Colson, a four-year v…
Dave Fitz, spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Maryland, told AP that the Federal Bureau of Investigation “reached out and offered support” and sent some special agents to assist.
Stawinski said the second man was believed to have been present with the first suspect when the shots erupted, but fled and was later arrested.
Four miles away, in Cheverly, police cruisers lined the entrance to Prince George’s Hospital Center.
Three brothers are in custody, accused of being involved in a shootout that killed a Prince George’s County police officer. He found himself in the middle of the gunfight and heroically intervened, exchanging gunfire with Michael Ford. By all accounts, Jacai was an exceptional police officer, serving the people of Maryland with exemplary commitment and bravery. Colson was declared dead later in a…
“It doesn’t make any sense”, he said.
Police Chief Hank Stawinski says the shooter opened fire on the first officer he saw outside the station Sunday afternoon.
He jumped out of the auto and engaged the suspects as other cops ran out of the precinct, the chief said.
By all measures, or at least by those discussed with police, Officer Colson was a hero: He was off-duty, saw the threat, drew his weapon, identified the threat and distracted Michael.
An autopsy on Jacai Colson showed he was “inadvertently shot by a fellow responding officer during the gunbattle”, police said a day after the attack. Ford’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“Here he was, 15 or 16 years old and we were putting him in a huddle with guys who were 17 or 18”, LaRose said. A third brother was also arrested, NBC Washington says.
The police union leader, John Teletchea, was livid that the suspects would coldly watch and record what he said their own cellphone evidence shows was an unprovoked and premeditated attack.
“Colson reacted to circumstances I don’t think he was prepared for”, Stawinski said. And while doing so we had individuals videotaping, as if it’s a game, as if it’s something we’re going to put on YouTube and glorify’.
Tucker said Ford had a hard relationship with his mother, and she said Ford’s two brothers were also forced to leave the family home when they were teenagers.
Colson worked in the college’s communications and marketing department for more than two years while he attended school.
“He was just a great human being”, coach Pedro Arruza said.
“Very kind, always receptive to anyone he met. He greeted you with a sincerity, a very authentic person. He was just a really high-character guy”.
Police say 28-year-old officer Jacai Colson died in the gun battle Sunday.

“Meanwhile, an aunt, Shanelle Ramos-Rogers, said Michael had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic, that the family was devastated and shamed, and sorry for everything and all the grief we caused in this officer’s life”. “Everyone is taking it real bad, real bad”. “So I came back in and I was looking out the window and then I heard some gunshots – like ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow.’ And I said, ‘Oh my God, they are shooting at each other'”.
