Mass Effect and KOTOR writer Drew Karpyshyn returns to BioWare
Karpyshyn announced the career move on his blog. He said that this is at least what he’s focusing on for now, but I have a feeling we’ll see him getting more involved again in the near future, based on his past history with the company.

With story such a key component of the expansion, it’s good that BioWare has veterans like Karpyshyn on staff. Mass Effect: Andromeda’s writing team, meanwhile, is being headed up by newcomer Chris Schlerf. As someone who really enjoys the storytelling in his novels and games, this is easily the best news I’ve heard in a while.
I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. No small task considering BioWare also works on huge games like Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Andromeda was described as “very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy”. In fact, the Mass Effect 3 ending was universally unpopular that BioWare was basically forced to release a free content update that attempted to address the issue by adding a short epilogue scene. Karpyshyn originally left BioWare to focus on writing a trilogy of novels known as the Choas Realm.

He might be working on Star Wars for the moment but he is also working on another book, which will probably be linked to one of the major intellectual properties that the studio owns. Previous to that, he worked on games such as Baldur’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Jade Empire and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
