Mass Effect fans may have figured out the name of Andromeda’s protagonist

In fact, there appears to be a little tidbit hidden in the most recent Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer that a few folks believe reveals the name of the upcoming installments protagonist, and it’s a doozy. At around 44 seconds in, it moves from archival footage of space events to new, Andromeda-specific footage.

According to fans, BioWare may have revealed the name of the game’s Commander by hiding it in plain sight.

We know the main protagonist will not be Commander Shepard, as has been confirmed by BioWare, however, this next character’s name could indeed be Ryder. At the left-hand side, there is a dogtag lying on the cockpit dashboard with a name “RIDER/RYDER” written on it. Also, on the right-hand side, there is a photo on an adult human with two children in his/her arm.

This theory is further supported by the “Mass Effect: Andromeda” announcement trailer released in E3, which had Johnny Cash’s “Ghost Riders in the Sky” for its background music. This this a certain Reddit user R/Benelioto has theorize that it was the name of a new protagonist, writing “The dogtag says RYDER/RIDER, which is probably a reference to Sally Ride, the first American woman in space”.

In addition to this possible coincidence, when a fan asked BioWare Montreal studio director Yanick Roy if they could change the song to “proper music that fits the Mass Effect universe”, Roy replied in a tweet with “No, sorry, because there are very good reasons for that choice of song for the trailer that should become clear later on”.

“Later on” might mean now, as clues just seem to abound.

In another news, “Andromeda” won’t have a first-person multiplayer mode.

There may be spoilers ahead, so if you like your Mass Effect spoiler-free, head back to the front page! Gamespot added that there won’t be any familiar faces this time, including Shepard.
