Massachusetts delegates beginning trek to GOP convention
That means even if a Missouri delegate for Trump attempts to abstain or vote for someone else, that person’s vote still would be recorded for Trump, said Jonathan Prouty, executive director of the Missouri Republican Party.

All eyes will be on Donald Trump at next week’s Republican National Convention, as the presumed presidential nominee makes his pitch to thousands of delegates in Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena. But Bearden doesn’t plan to actually support Trump. We’ll be there to participate in the process …
Mike Lee, R-Utah, took one when the Republican National Convention’s Rules Committee overwhelmingly rejected a move to let delegates pick any presidential candidate they wanted.
The speaker list released so far includes Trump’s wife and children, along with athletes like pro golfer Natalie Gulbis, soap opera star Antonio Sabato Jr., PayPal billionaire Peter Thiel, and former Trump rivals, Texas Sen.
“I haven’t decided how I’ll vote in November – whether I’ll support the Libertarian ticket or write in a candidate – but I do know there are a lot of things Republicans can do in the coming months to lay the groundwork for rebuilding our party and the foundation for a true conservative renewal in our country”.
Trump has failed to articulate a clear message or his political principles, Lee believes. “I’m excited for her”, Holliday said.
“People saw that whether Donald Trump was their first choice, second choice or not their choice at all that he had won fair and square, and that you can’t just ignore the votes of millions of people”, Mohr said.
Mohr says in Erie County alone the presidential primaries to select the Democratic and Republican nominees cost more than $200,000.
She’s a delegate who supports Donald Trump wholeheartedly.
“My own personal opinion is just one vote”, she said.
For some, like Louisiana delegate Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council and an early Cruz supporter, backing Trump is a work in progress.
“I think this will be historic and because of Trump’s background and everything I think it will be a little bit different, I think there will be a little more hype involved in this and there will be more attention the convention this year”, Papierz adds. It is not going to help elect him president. “In the last few weeks, my team and I have been talking to every one of these delegates, and I can tell you that the overwhelming majority of Washington state delegates are behind our nominee”. “I think that’s part of his appeal to people, the fact that he is less politically correct”.
Simpson said he does not expect that to happen among Texas delegates. Then the rest of the floor could vote to unbind the delegates. Der Manouel is concerned about what delegates may encounter outside the venue.
Rose said that “when you walk around Decatur, Illinois, and hit the coffee shops in Sullivan and Shelbyville and Paris and talk to people and ask them, ‘Are we heading the right way or the wrong way?’ ” most will reply, “The wrong way”. Cleveland residents are ready to show off their city and hoping their police can handle what’s ahead.
In Philadelphia, site of the Democratic National Convention, the Secret Service’s top agent said Friday “there is nothing we leave to chance”.
Hope Sutterfield, 23, of Duncan, said unity is the key to stopping Clinton, especially after recent critical reports about the former Secretary of State’s email practices.
Sen. Bill Cassidy and Reps. Garret Graves, John Fleming and Steve Scalise also plan to attend.
“To be there, to watch history in the making, it’s pretty exciting”, Adams said in an interview this week.
Besides, he said, he can better spend the time at home campaigning for re-election.

Graves, who is attending his first GOP convention as a member of Congress, said it will be important to return to Louisiana with a spirit of shared goal.
