Massachusetts Weather Forecast: Dangerously Bitter Cold for Valentine’s Weekend

The low for Saturday night is around 3, and wind chills are expected to be about -10.

For the fourth consecutive day, Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the far north. Thursday’s warning covers a much larger region than the previous days, impacting almost the entire northern half.

Adding insult to the cold will be snow showers with up to an inch of accumulating snow overnight. Temperatures will fall to around 15 degrees by 5pm with wind chills going below zero.

The big problem is not just how low thermometers will read, but also how fierce the wind chill will be.

Winds…northwest 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour.

Sunday: A slight chance of snow before noon.

A quick low pressure system will pass to our south tonight bringing some minor snow accumulations, mainly for the Cape/Islands.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 35.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, the coldest place in the state is High Point at 4 degrees; Walpack and Wantage are reporting temperatures of 5, according to the state climatologist’s office. If you factor in the wind, the wind chill be down to -20°!! Partly sunny, with a high near 11.

The heaviest snow is predicted to be off Lake Erie between Buffalo and Batavia, where a lake effect snow warning will be in effect from 4 a.m.to 10 p.m. Friday. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

The National Weather Service said a deep Polar low has settled across the eastern United States – conditions that will likely remain in place until early next week.

Sunday night: Chance of snow showers. It is predicted to be mostly cloudy with a low near 22.
